Batteries and rechargeable batteries are classified according to several criteria:

Depending on the application, we categorize batteries and rechargeable batteries to: Industrial and consumer

Industrial batteries and rechargeable batteries are further classified according to their chemical composition to:

  • NiCd – rechargeable batteries used mainly in hand tools and flashlights
  • NiMH – rechargeable batteries used in hand tools and other portable applications
  • Li-ion – advanced rechargeable batteries used in laptop computers, barcode scanners and other portable applications
  • Li-pol – advanced rechargeable batteries used in cell phones, PDAs, navigations and small portable applications
  • Lithium – special batteries with 3.0-3.6 V voltage and long life, used primarily as uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Lead – hermetically sealed, vapor-tight lead rechargeable batteries, used as uninterruptible power supplies, safety and signaling devices
  • Alkaline – standard size batteries for devices

Consumer batteries and rechargeable batteries are classified according to application to:

  • Classical - standard consumer ZnCl and alkaline batteries, non-rechargeable
  • Rechargeable - rechargeable batteries for everyday use in standard appliances
  • CAMERA – special rechargeable batteries for cameras
  • VIDEO – special rechargeable batteries for video cameras
  • Hearing aids – special batteries for hearing aids (devices used by the hearing-impaired)
  • Watch – very small alkaline button batteries
  • Wireless handset – rechargeable batteries for wireless phones
